Episode 44 of Upon Further Review!

This week we go dancing, hiking, and throwing baseballs (sort of) in Episode 44 of Upon Further Review! In this episode we celebrate a year of UFR (although we’re saving our big celebration for Episode 50!) and thank everyone for their review suggestions before moving on to the show proper: first, we put on our dancing shoes for our review of the TV hit show So You Think You Can Dance; second, we lace up our boots as we look at the sport/avocation/exhausting occupation of hiking; and finally, we look at sports in the virtual world with our review of the MySportsRadio.com website. As always, we appreciate your ideas and suggestions, and as always, we ask that you keep sending those along…and keep sending your recommendations of the show to everyone you can! (As usual, podsafe intro music is provided by Sharif (“You’re My Girl”), outro by David Henderson (“We Gotta Go”).)

  1. Michael:

I totally agree about the audience of SYTYCD. So annoying. I also agree on the vote for Sabra! I was originally torn between her and Sara. Sara was a break dancer who managed to learn and pull off such varied styles as disco, ballroom, latin, and jazz and did really well! But since she was voted off last week, I’m going for Sabra. She’s great, too for the same reasons Clea mentioned. :) Great review, guys.

  2. Michael:

Oh, and congrats on going for a year! I’m thrilled to have been able to listen to them all. :)

  3. admin:

Thanks for the well-wishes, Mike, and for the SYTYCD suggestion in the first place (we’ll probably take on one or two of the other suggestions next week). In the bigger picture, here’s hoping we’re here for many more years to come…(or if not here, Comedy Central or the Discovery Channel or TLC or something. We’d be fine with that. :) )

  4. AJ:

Thanks for the entertaining and thoughtful review of hiking. While I’d give more than a six, personally, I believe we can all agree that Greg’s concept of a flat mountain range is intriguing.

    Congratulations on a year’s worth of 1s, 2s, 3s, 4s, 5s, 6s, 7s, 8s, 9s and 10s. Oh, and a zero.

  5. admin:

    Intriguing…AND TRUE!

    :)

    Greg

P.S. Thanks for the well-wishes, AJ!

  6. Mike:

Another kick ass review guys. Gotta agree on hiking, I ain’t a big fan. Only fun if you’re doin it with a couple of friends.

Mysportsradio.com review was good too. That NFL Roundtable show they have on there is good, and the guys are pretty good chemistry. That kid that hosts the Red Sox show is really knowledgeable, just his personality is sometimes too much to take. At times he comes off as the average high school jock. Again though, he’s worth a listen because he knows his stuff.

  7. admin:

Thanks for the feedback, Mike, and welcome…since we think you’re different from Michael, who is also a long time listener! We hope you’ll keep the comments and ideas coming.

    Hey Guys,

    Long time no speak.

Firstly congrats on going a full year with your podcast.

Although I am not so active these days in the world of podcasting reviews I always listen to your show and it remains one of my favourites.

I have been busy with work, kids (2 year old daughter and 9 month old son) and study. I am studying part-time to complete my Masters so that I can become a Teacher of the Deaf.

I would love to see some more movie reviews. It would be interesting to hear your review on: Sicko, The Bourne Ultimatum and (not new now) The Lives of Others.

I saw Pans Labyrinth on DVD the other day with my wife. I remember Clea talking about it some time ago. We both agree that it is an amazing movie. A somewhat ambiguous ending.

Anyhow bye for now and keep doing what you’re doing.

    Kind Regards,
    Tim

  9. admin:

Hi Tim! Good to hear things are well, and glad you’re still listening…please keep us posted on the Masters progress as well (we happen to be big fans of teaching and teachers, as you know :) ). And we will indeed tackle your suggestions soon, especially on The Bourne Ultimatum (which Greg especially wants to see).

  10. Michael:

    Sabra wins! :)

  11. admin:

Yes, yes she did. Clea is inclined to feel a little pleased with herself and other Sabra fans about that…

  12. classic chris:

    greg, clea,

    thanks, yet again.

still hoping to hear your discussion of reality shows in general (and hoping to hear your support/refute of my ‘first season(s) is (are) the only season(s) to watch’ theory), but great review of sytycd. still coming into its own, so still worth a look.

and A.J. has agreed to let me tag along as we hike the Appalaichain trail next year. thanks for the primer on hiking! look forward to sharing our tales!

    see you on 45!!!

  13. Sam C:

nah, the mysportsradio.com site is garbage. The guy who runs it is clueless. the podcasts themselevs are ok, but the man behind the scenes is not a guy worth supporting

  14. admin:

…says the man responsible for the whole thing, eh, Sam Coutin, producer of MySportsRadio.com? Welcome aboard, oh “clueless” one! :) We hope you like what you hear and will stick around for more.

    T.R.
