The Super Bowl has come and gone, but we’re here to get you through those lonely winter nights with Upon Further Review! In Episode 32 we send a few shout-outs before getting into the show proper: first, we look at the aforementioned sports and media spectacle of the Super Bowl; second, we review the enigmatic but talented (but did we say enigmatic?) musician Prince; and finally, we gaze into the heart of a nation with our review of the podcast Extruding America. As always, we appreciate your thoughts, ideas and opinions…and ask that you please tell everyone you can about the show! The bigger the conversation, the more fun the discussion, we always say… (As usual, podsafe intro music is provided by Sharif (“You’re My Girl”), outro by David Henderson (“We Gotta Go”).)

…has been kind enough to nominate us as a finalist in the Public Service category over at the Podcast Peers awards!  Now we think there are some other great shows there as well, but if you are a podcaster who likes what we’re doing we’d appreciate a vote (and other than here and on the forums at Podcast Pickle we’re not going to mention it anywhere else…)
See you all for our next show, to be released soon!

The Super Bowl is fast approaching, and we’re getting ready for our own big game…of Upon Further Review!  In Episode 31 we look at our usual complement of three items:  first, we look at the mystery and magic of Cirque Du Soleil; second, we ask just how dumb some bosses can be with our review of the hit TV show The Office; and finally, we conclude our look at women in podcasting with our review of Rocketboom.  As always, we are grateful for your ideas, suggestions, and support–and as always, we are most grateful for your continued presence as listeners!  (As usual, podsafe intro music is provided by Sharif (“You’re My Girl”), outro by David Henderson (“We Gotta Go”).)

No, this isn’t a Heroes reference–apparently someone was nice enough to add Upon Further Review to the 2000 bloggers list over at Tino Buntic’s site, and we’re not entirely sure whether to be flattered by the inclusion or amused at the rather blatant Technorati link building this project is trying to develop–particularly since we’re a review show, not a blog.  But we do write things here sometimes, and besides, far be it from us to look down on increased traffic!  Moreover, some of these bloggers are interesting reads, so head over and check it out.  You might even find yourself there…

We’re back again with the show you know and love (we hope!) in Episode 30 of Upon Further Review! In this episode we review pioneers in civil rights, women in podcasting, and spies On Her Majesty’s Secret Service–though not necessarily in that order. First, in honor of the recent holiday we look at Martin Luther King, both life and legacy; second, we examine the new grittier take on the world’s favorite secret agent in our review of the movie Casino Royale; and finally, we look at the first of two major vidcasts with female hosts as we review Cali Lewis’s GeekBrief TV. Thanks as always for listening, contributing, and spreading the word about the show–we couldn’t do this without you (well, we could, but it would be kind of silly)! (As usual, podsafe intro music is provided by Sharif (”You’re My Girl”).)

After a short hiatus for the holidays and other such realities of daily life, we’re back in Episode 29 of Upon Further Review!  In this episode we welcome back Cathryn, star of Episode 9 of UFR, into the guest review spot before plunging into the first show of 2007:  first, we ask what kind of sport doesn’t decide its results on the field (and who thought doing so was a good idea?) with our review of the college football Bowl Championship Series; second, we look at the strange merging of anti-Fascism and fantasy in the new movie Pan’s Labyrinth; and finally, we get motivated and hip (at least that’s what we’re told!) in our review of the Hey Josh vidcast.  Thanks as always for your support–we apologize for the delay in getting this show out, and look forward to a great new year with all of you!  (As usual, podsafe intro music is provided by Sharif (“You’re My Girl”), outro by David Henderson (“We Gotta Go”).)

Hey Josh

Okay, so we’ll admit we’ve never been huge fans of the “democratic” news site Digg (for lots of different reasons), but they have recently started a new podcasting section which could (theoretically) be kind of cool.  A few people have already been kind enough to Digg us over there, and if you’re so inclined (and have or are interested in a Digg account) we would certainly appreciate a Digg from you as well.  The link is here:

We’ll have Episode 29 out shortly.

Happy New Year to all!

The holidays are officially upon us, and as always we’re ready to offer our take on them in Episode 28 of Upon Further Review!  In this episode we thank our loyal listeners for their active participation in our comments section (and ask for more, greedy types that we are) before heading into the main portion of our show:  first, we look at all things festive as we analyze, well, just about every major holiday we can think of (Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Winter Solstice, traditional Buddhist festivals, Neopagan, Native American, even atheist…and yes, there is one) with the exception of the Hindu Festival of Lights–not because it’s less worthy, but because we missed it on our list (which shows why you shouldn’t bite off more than you can chew!); second, we discuss ways to get in the giving spirit as we check out a variety of click-to-donate sites; and finally, we break down all the consumerism we just got ourselves caught up in with our review of the underground hip-hop / social commentary stylings of Julien Smith and the In Over Your Head podcast.   As always, we are grateful for your support–and never more than now, in the holiday season.  We wish you a wonderfully peaceful holiday season–thanks for making this such a great year for UFR, and for spreading the word to friends and family in the weeks and months to come!  (As usual, podsafe intro is provided by Sharif (“You’re My Girl”), but NOT as usual the podsafe outro music is provided by a “mystery singer.”  Much respect to the person who guesses who it might be… :) )

Well, as announced on our last show, your friendly neighborhood reviewers made it to the championship game of the Celebrity Podcaster Fantasy Football League…and while we don’t like to gloat, well, we basically took it to the house. That’s right–we won the championship, and the trophy will be residing right here at Upon Further Review for the next year (we’ll do what we can to keep it nice and shiny for our title defense). In all seriousness, we’re grateful to Steve from the Extra Points Fantasy Football Podcast and Wicked Good Podcast fame for inviting us to the league, and we had a great time with everyone there (and if you’d like to know more, we will be guest starring on Extra Points next week, so head over to check it out). Our rating of the league–and our victory–a 10/10 (cue touchdown celebration dance). We’ll have our new holiday show out for you all tomorrow, but in the meantime, we present the following graphic for any possible skeptics out there…

Fantasy Football Glory!

We’re getting into the holiday spirit in Episode 27 of Upon Further Review!  In this show we get right into the meat of our reviews, starting with our look at Christmas trees, real and imagined (and tell you how YOU can help solve our dilemma); second, we laugh it up with our review of The Daily Show; and finally, we ask how much one person can be involved in with our review of Paul Levinson’s Light On Light Through podcast.  As always, we are grateful for your support and continued listening to the show…and as always, we ask that you spread the word to friends, foes, and distant relations alike!  (As usual, podsafe intro music is provided by Sharif (”You’re My Girl”), outro by David Henderson (”We Gotta Go”).)
