Episode 39 of Upon Further Review!
Once again we’re here with our usual combination of opinions and original ideas in Episode 39 of Upon Further Review! In this episode we’re joined by former guest reviewer and star of The Mep Report Russ, who (after we welcome the feedback from new listeners) helps us break down three items: first, we try not to bite off more than we can chew with our review of chewing gum; second, we step up to the plate with our examination of that most venerable of sports, baseball; and finally, we look at the mixed career of a consumer advocate and politician as we review Ralph Nader. As always, we welcome your feedback and review suggestions–and as always, we’re grateful every time you spread the word about the show to your friends and family! Hi guys
I would never have thought anyone could do ten minutes of audio about chewing gum!
On the baseball question there is no presence to speak of here in Australia. When I lived in Sydney there were a few baseball teams almost entirely populated by ex-pat Americans. Strangely enough there is a baseball field near my house but I’ve lived here for 6 years and have never seen a baseball game being played there. I have this vague idea that dead baseballers come out to play when we’re all asleep. Of all the sports I consider to be American (gridiron, ice hockey, baseball) that I have gone to see when travelling in the US baseball is my favourite by a long shot. I found the other two stupefyingly boring but have always enjoyed the baseball games I went to.
Hey, guys, great show as usual! I was surprised and glad to see the chewing gum suggestion get such attention! :) Very entertaining and informative! Keep up the great work!
Bernadette–well, we try to push the envelope with our reviews, even if it is in the chewing gum realm. :) Thanks for the report on baseball–we had suspected that a lot of Australians would like baseball most because of the cricket connection, but the report on the other sports is interesting.

As for the World Series, of course America wins it every year, don’t we win all international baseball challenge- err… never mind :).
All they need to do is add caffeine to gum and you’ve got a completely American scene: baseball players chewing caffeinated gum!

writing these so fast i won’t take time to do the usual drawn out analysis, but in short – chewing gum, funny; baseball, poignant; ralph nader, more than ar giht-wing tool.

Bah, you’re right about my math. It all made sense at the time…which is why I’m glad I did not follow the math road in school. Literature suits me much better. :)
