Episode 26 of Upon Further Review!

With a half-year’s worth of shows behind us, we march boldly into the future with Episode 26 of Upon Further Review! In this show we thank our loyal listeners for their continued feedback and support before moving on to the reviews themselves: first, we look at the present and future of Internet shopping with our review of Amazon.com; second, we go all-in (and predict future wins?) as we examine the online poker site PokerStars; and finally, we contemplate the meaning of three missing screws and a whole lot of space happy jokes with our take on the sci-fi comedy podcasts of Planet Retcon Radio. As always, we thank you for your support, encouragement, and downright love…and ask that you spread that love along with the word about our show! (As usual, podsafe intro music is provided by Sharif (”You’re My Girl”), outro by David Henderson (”We Gotta Go”).)

    Thanks for the review!

2 factual corrections, just for clarity:
-The alternate feed is “everything but bloopers,” not “only bloopers.”
-We won a Parsec award, not a Podcast Peer award.

    Again, thanks!

  2. admin:

Whoops! Sorry about the two mistakes. But for the record, if you guys did do an “Only Bloopers” feed I would still think it was a cool idea. :)

Amazon should get an 11 or a 36 or something. On top of all the cool stuff you mentioned it has proven a lifesaver to those of us who live outside the US but who have friends and family inside the US. Since Amazon came along I have ALWAYS delivered birthday and xmas presents to my family on time and it hasn’t cost an arm and a leg to ship the gifts. To send stuff from here usually ends up costing more in shipping than the present is worth and you have to get organised weeks before whatever event you’re sending gifts for.

Oh, and the rise of Amazon changed book selling in Australia too. Prior to Amazon book stores here could (and did) charge whatever they liked for books as there was little competition and it was virtually impossible for an individual without publishing industry contacts to order stuff from overseas. Amazon changed all that…for the better.

I love the people at Amazon (every single one of ’em).

Amen to that, Bernadette…long live Amazon!

    Greg, Clea,

I can’t take it! When do the bad shows start?

Amazon does have so many wonderful features, and always seems to improve. We’re selling some used books on Amazon right now and it’s a pretty good deal. They take a commission, but pay well for shipping, so it all works out in the end. If you haven’t, you should give it a try! Great way to recycle books and put a little coin in your pocket for the effort.

Online poker seems too tempting, and i’m not a big sci fi fan myself (but I do like fantasy, so maybe i’ll be the one to start the fantasy show podcast), so on to 27 for me!!!

  7. admin:

Hopefully never, with any luck… ;) Not a bad thought on the used books–we definitely have some we would like to be able to sell.

Greg is actually more of a fantasy than a sci-fi fan himself (though he does like sci-fi), so he’s with you there!
